Bessie was born in Bayamon, Puerto Rico to the late Francisco and Pauline Negron on January 19, 1944. She moved to New York City as a child and grew up there with her sister Miriam. As a teen, she met Daniel, the man who would become her husband. The two fell quickly in love, married in 1960, and immediately started a family that would include four boys, Daniel Jr., Robert, Michael, and Edward within their first four years of marriage. The young family eventually moved to South Florida which Bessie called home for the rest of her life. In 1970, she gave birth to their youngest child, a daughter named Denise. Bessie was a devoted and adoring wife who loved her family with all her heart. She absolutely cherished being a mom, always nurturing and encouraging; she was happiest when surrounded by her family. Later, she took over the role of “mami” for her granddaughter Jasaline, raising her from a young child to adulthood. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren all adore her. Bessie was the heart and soul of her family.
Bessie was also a loyal and lifelong friend. Always supporting others in need, she sought out ways to bless people with her kindness and encouraging words. She had an uncanny ability to remember dates; birthdays, anniversaries, and important events, always ready with card in hand full of heartfelt words and uplifting wishes. Her favorite things included singing, listening to music, and writing poetry. Her bubbly and happy personality, warm hug, and beautiful smile quickly helped her find a way into everyone’s heart. She was always concerned with her appearance, dressing beautifully with hair done and make-up on, wanting to look pretty for her family and friends. Though beautiful on the outside, her true beauty came from within. She was the most accepting and non-judgmental person; full of warmth and extending unconditional love to all who crossed her path. She always looked for the very best in every person, even when they didn’t see it in themselves. She truly was a role model for God’s love here on earth. She treasured reading her bible and was a woman full of faith in her Lord Jesus Christ. She sought out opportunities to share about God and His love to all who would listen. She was a self-described “prayer warrior” and so enjoyed gathering with her girlfriends for bible study, prayer, and girl talk. She deeply loved her friends.
Bessie is preceded in death by her daughter Denise on September 26, 1998.
Bessie is survived by her husband, Daniel R. Vargas; their children, Daniel R. Vargas Jr., Robert Vargas and his wife Marilyn, Michael E. Vargas and his wife Megan, Edward Vargas; her granddaughter, Jasaline Quiroga; her sister Miriam Fuentes (Puerto Rico); her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces, and many, many friends.
Serenity Memorial Chapels has been entrusted with the funeral arrangements.
