Darlene Rice
Darlene Daniels Rice, passed away on Saturday, March 17, 2018.
She was born on May 14, 1955, daughter of the late Donald and Violet Daniels. Darlene was raised in Brookfield Ohio and graduated from Youngstown State University with a Masters Degree in Comprehensive Science.
Darlene had a passion for teaching science, especially physics and chemistry. While teaching at Mineral Ridge, she participated and earned many awards at the Youngstown State Physics Olympics. She taught for 35 years at Mineral Ridge High School in Ohio.
Upon retirement she moved to Coral Springs, Florida to be with her daughter. Within weeks, she was back teaching science at West Broward High School, Pembroke Pines, FL. She was the Robotics sponsor; her teams competed at the world competition.
Darlene loved igniting the imagination and instilling a love of science in each of her students.
A teacher changes the world one life at a time, and she touched thousands of children over her illustrious career.
Darlene cherished her family and friends. She had many friends from childhood. She counted her colleagues among her closest friends. She was always caring for her siblings, but her greatest joy was being a mother and grandmother. Her love knew no bounds, and she will be greatly missed.
Darlene is survived by her daughter, Rebecca(Moises) Hernandez and son Daniel(Stefanie) Rice; three granddaughters Chloe, Arianna, and Giselle; two sisters Penny Daniels and Sally(Daniel) Moore; three brothers Donald Daniels, Calvin Daniels, and Jack Daniels; aunt Sallie Fallon; cousin Barbara Blackburn; and many nieces and nephews.
Services for Darlene will be held Thursday, March 22, 2018 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church at 2:00 pm in Coral Springs, FL.
