Ezilia Joseph: A Life Woven in Faith and Fabric
Ezilia Joseph was born into a loving Christian family on May 22, 1941. As the fourth child among ten siblings, she was a cherished daughter to Anita and Eloge Joseph. Her childhood was filled with the sounds of a sewing machine, activities that shaped her future. After earning her diploma, she pursued her passion for sewing in Haiti, mastering the skills that would define her career.
Ezilia’s commitment to her faith and community was unwavering. She found peace in volunteering at hospitals and praying for those in hardship at her home church, in Montreal Canada, becoming a source of hope for many.
In 1982, Ezilia embarked on a life-changing journey from Port-au-Prince, Haiti, to Montreal, Canada. This move wasn’t just a relocation; it was a step towards new citizenship and opportunities. Montreal became her home for 42 years, where she continued her beloved work as a dressmaker.
Despite the harsh Canadian winters, Ezilia looked forward to her yearly visits to Florida, where she spent precious time with her family. On February 23, 2024, while in Ft. Lauderdale, she faced her greatest challenge—a diagnosis that led to her passing on May 23, 2024. In her final moments, she was surrounded by the love and prayers of her family, a true reflection of the life she led.
Ezilia’s memory is honored by her siblings Elosier, Felix, Mercilence, and Mariette; brothers-in-law Justin and Leosthene; sisters-in-law Verla, Odela; and numerous nieces and nephews including Armide, Feller, Marie-Alix, Adnide, Gama, Yolby, Georgie, Gino, Ivionise, Kersine, Roseline, Lucfrantz, Jimmy, Lonique, Anita, Nixon, Kelly, Guy, Chilla, MacDonald, Jherry, Alan, and Valentine. Her extended family—cousins Remy, Edith, Pastor Thelemarque Fritz, Francesca, Fernant, soul sister Neslie Marc, and the families Joseph, Noel, Thermidor, Thelemarque, Nemorin, Mehu, Angrand, Hyacinthe, Louis, Beausejour, Dugard, Sainvil, Metayer, Fleurinord, Tienna, Belizaire, Paul, along with numerous friends, deeply feel her absence.
Her favorite Bible verse, Psalm 34:10, was a guiding light in her life:
“The young lions suffer want and hunger; but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing.”
Ezilia Joseph’s life was a testament to her dedication and love, her faith and skill, her prayers and persistence. Her legacy continues to inspire those she touched, a lasting testament to a life of love and service.
