It is with great sadness to announce the passing of Franciszek Korzen on September 7th, 2018 at age of 80 years, after his battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his family and friend in his final moments.
Franciszek was originally from Ropa, Poland where he completed a technical institute and became an aircraft engine fabricator in Rzeszow. While Franciszek lived in Poland, he was an active member of the Solidarity movement that fought for the freedoms and rights that we take for granted here in the United States. His efforts in the Solidarity movement contributed to the collapse of the oppressive Communist government and led to the establishment of a free Poland.
In 1990, Franciszek moved to the United States with his wife Helena and four sons, Casey, Andy, Greg and Adam. He initially lived in the City of New York before finally moving to South Florida in 1992.
Franciszek was never afraid of work and pursued many different jobs in order to support his family. He was a true entrepreneur and pursued many independent renovation projects throughout his career. Franciszek and his wife of more than 55 years finally retired to a small community in Lauderdale Lakes. After retirement, Franciszek enjoyed his life by taking many trips to Poland and traveling throughout Europe. However, the most enjoyable and rewarding commitment was Franciszek’s involvement in the Polish Catholic Mission in Pompano Beach, “Our Lady of Czestochowa.” He devoted many hours to the Mission by using his skills to perform necessary renovations or volunteering as an usher.
Franciszek was always a fighter and was never afraid of any project, regardless of how difficult it was. Even when he was faced with an aggressive cancer, he did not give up for a second. Franciszek always looked for ways to fight the disease, never giving up. However, above all, Franciszek will be most remembered as a loving family man that cared the most for his family and friends, never forgetting his sister and brothers still living in Poland.
Franciszek is survived by his wife Helena and four sons, Casey, Andy, Greg and Adam, eight grand kids, Aggie, Michael, Thomas, Sean, Martha, Chris, Anthony and Amelia and two great grand kids, Jack and Madison.
The funeral will begin with prayer at 11:00 A.M. followed by mass at 12-noon, on September 11th, 2018, at Our Lady of Czestochowa Polish Catholic Mission located at 2400 NE 12th Street, Pompano Beach, FL 33062.
Entombment will immediately follow at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Cemetery, 1500 S. State Road 7 (441), N. Lauderdale, Florida 33068.
In lieu of flowers please make any donations to Our Lady of Czestochowa Polish Catholic Mission.
