John T. Cierech, Sr, WWII hero and friend to all, passed away peacefully on May 31, 2017 at his home in Pompano Beach, FL at the age of 97.
John is survived by his wife of nearly 71 years, Elizabeth (Betty) Wagner Cierech and their four children Irene (Bill) Butcher, John Jr. (Cheley), Regina Yargates, Lu Ann (Skip) Clark, 7 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great granddaughters along with numerous nieces and nephews. He is pre-deceased by his parents, 4 brothers and 1 sister.
John fought valiantly in WWII with the 11th Airborne and has been mentioned in a book, “Rescue at Los Banos” that details the most daring prison camp raid of the war. He was a paratrooper in the Army, married his wife in 1946 and retired from the Atlantic City Electric Company in NJ.
The family requests in lieu of flowers contributions be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or a charity of your choice.
Funeral Services will take place on Tuesday, June 12, 2017at 11:30AM at South Florida National Cemetery, located at 6501 State Road 7, Lake Worth, FL 33449
Upon arrival to the cemetery, please line up behind lane #3. Services will begin promptly at 11:30 AM.
