Kathleen Veronica Cespedes, 87, passed away peacefully on September 22, 2021,
at home in Margate, Florida.
Kathleen (fondly called “Happy”) was born on January 2, 1934, in Spanish Town,
Jamaica. She was the eldest of three children born to Thelma (Abrahams) and
Ralph Mudie. Kathleen led a quiet life. She enjoyed classical music and loved
reading the Bible, particularly the King James Version. Her chosen profession was
bookkeeping.
While living in Jamaica, Kathleen married twice and had two children. Her first
marriage, to Carlton Sutherland, produced daughter Molly. They later divorced.
Her second marriage, to Basil Cespedes, produced daughter Selena.
In 1978, Kathleen and her family immigrated to the United States and settled in
Miami, Florida. After her husband’s death and her retirement, Kathleen and
daughter Selena relocated to Tennessee. Years later, they moved back to Florida
and settled in Margate.
Kathleen was a warm, loving and caring mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and
grandaunt, who will be deeply missed.
Kathleen is survived by children Molly Young (Robert “Bobby”) and Selena
Cespedes; grandchildren Adam and Karolyn Young; siblings Florence Bassaragh
and Harry Mudie (Dorothy); cousins; nieces and nephews; grandnieces and
grandnephews; other extended family and friends. She is predeceased by her
husband and parents.
