Marie Claire Castellan

Our Mother Marie Claire Castellan died at the age of 80 on June 28, 2023 after a long and full life. She was very loved and will be missed terribly. If you would like to pay your respects, you are welcome to attend the memorial service we are holding in her honor at First Haitian Baptist Church of North Lauderdale, FL. on July 15, 2023, starting at 10AM.

Marie Claire “Mommy” Castellan 

Our Mother, who loved to be called “mommy” by her children and Grandma / Grand’Mere by her grandchildren, departed her loving family on the 28 of June 2023.

Our Mother was born in Gonaives, Haiti on the 1st of April 1943 to Didier Daphinis and Mirka Seard. 

Our Mother loved us unconditionally. She was a loving sister, aunt, cousin, friend and mother to so many.  Her family was her pride and joy, she enjoyed seeing them grow and hearing about all of their accomplishments.  Our mother was a strong independent woman, taking on the family love of sewing making a living as a seamstress in a clothing factory for almost 10 years after moving to the United States from Haiti. She later moved to Florida to give her children a better life and became a certified nurse’s assistant working with the elderly. She and her husband were real estate investor and was a caring landlord.  She was an entrepreneur owning a clothing store called Shirley’s Fashion named after her first-born child. If we ever needed her, she was always there- no questions asked.  We were beyond blessed by God to have a mother like her. She will continue to live in the hearts of those she loved and that loved her.  A piece of her lives in each one of us left behind. 

Marie was preceded in death by her parents Dider Daphinis and Mirka Seard, granddaughter Christine Ligonde, husband Monelus Castellan, her brother Diderot Daphinis, and her son Mondel Castellan

Survived by her siblings - Marie C. Saladin, Delano Daphinis, Martha Daphnis, Bertenge Severe

She is also survived by her four children, their spouses, sixteen grandchildren and one great grandson. They include her daughter Shirley Ligonde, granddaughter Shara Ligonde, granddaughter Shae Ligonde; Son Monell Castellan and daughter-in-law Miyoshi Seto, granddaughter Ciara Hernandez, great-grandson Brandon Ransom, granddaughter Indirah Conover, granddaughter Sianne Castellan, grandson Lion Castellan; daughter Michaelle Pena and son-in-law Carlos Pena, granddaughter Michaelle Claire Pena, granddaughter Lu’Cinda Pena, granddaughter Marie Pena, granddaughter Gabriel Pena, grandson Carlos Pena Jr., granddaughter Martica Pena, granddaughter Josephine Pena; daughter Martine Harper and son-in-law Jules Harper, grandson Julian Harper, granddaughter Masai Harper; and grandson Justice Castellan son of Mondel Castellan.

Repast will take place at 8253 Sunset Strip, Sunrise, FL 33322.  Location off University and Sunset Strip in the Bravo/ Key food Plaza.
