Martha Rose Highton went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, in Heaven at the age of 95 on Monday, August 2, 2021 while at home in Margate, Florida where she has resided for the past 34 years. She was married to her loving husband, John, for 56 years when he predeceased her in 2006. Martha and John were blessed with three girls, Linda, Debra and Sharon. Her eldest daughter, Linda predeceased her in 2010. Debra and her husband, Anthony (Chris) Steigerwald live locally in Loxahatchee, Florida. Sharon and her husband Jeremy White live in Paducah, Kentucky. Linda's husband, Ken Gibson, lives in New Jersey.
Martha has four grandchildren: Kenneth (Stacey) Gibson, Jenaye (Misael) Merida, Lauren Gibson, and Jaclyn (Logan) West. She was also blessed with 2 great-grandchildren: RaeLynn Gibson and Kenny Gibson IV.
Martha was born on June 11,1926 in New York City, New York. She was one of 11 children born to Vito and Domenica Cotrone.
Martha met and married her husband, John, and they raised a family in Howell Township, N.J. Martha was a dedicated homemaker while the girls were growing up. After becoming empty-nested, she and John decided to move south to Florida. After several years in Pensacola, Florida they transitioned into “condo life” further south in Margate, Florida where they thoroughly enjoyed their golden years filled with social activities, travel, and time with family.
The joy of the Lord was her strength, especially as a widow. In more recent years, when getting around became more difficult, she clung to the Lord. He was her strength and comfort. She loved to sing and all who knew her would often hear her humming a favorite hymn.
Martha will be missed by all who knew her including her children Debra (Chris), Sharon (Jeremy), son-in-law Ken, grandchildren Kenny (Stacey), Lauren, Jenaye (Misael), Jaclyn (Logan), great-grandchildren Raelynn and Kenny, many nieces and nephews as well as her condo, church and Bingo friends.
A Celebration of Martha's Life will be held on Saturday, August 7, 2021 at 5:00 p.m. at Cokesbury United Methodist Church, 1801 NW 65th Avenue, Margate, Fl 33063.
