Obituary for Michael Irvan Speed

Michael Irvan Speed, Vietnam Veteran, Ford truck aficionado, and lady’s man, passed away on Sunday, September 11, 2016.

Mike was born on May 7th, 1949 in Nashville, TN to Norris and Norma Speed. He entered the Army in 1969 and served in the Vietnam War as a Military Police.

He owned Florida Mechanical Installers until he retired at the age of 65. Mike Speed loved riding motorcycles and Jesus. He often wished to put Jesus riding a motorcycle permanently inked on his body. His love of motorcycles was displayed prominently in his favorite attire of long jeans and faded Harley Davidson t-shirts. His love of Jesus was more subtle, displayed in his willingness to give that faded t-shirt to anyone in need.

He is survived by three daughters, Kimberly Medina, Carrie Lopez, and Courtney Speed, along with five granddaughters: Cristyna, Alyssa, Jasella, Izabella, and Gabriella, two great grandchildren: Giovanni and Alexa, two younger brothers: Ronald Speed and Richard Speed, and two pit bulls: Harley and Jax.

He loved to fish, to negotiate- especially with car salesmen, told the best dirty jokes, built the best decks, threw good BBQ's, and loved to read Science Fiction. His longest love affair was with food. At his favorite restaurant, 7-11, he would stock up on the essentials: Suzie-Q's and Diet Coke. If he had been given a choice for a last meal, you can bet it would have been a whopper. On second thought, it probably was.

In memory of Mike Speed, a memorial graveside service will be held at South Florida National Cemetery located at 6501 S. State Road 7 Lake Worth, FL 33449 on Friday September 23, 2016 @ 10:30am.

A memorial will also be held at The American Legion Post 321 located at 9081 SW 51 Street Cooper City, FL 33328 on Friday September 23, 2016 @ 12:30pm.

"We hold you close within our hearts,
And there you will remain
To walk with us
Throughout our lives
Until we meet again."
