Nora Primrose Boyd, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 9, 2025, surrounded by her family and loved ones.
Born in Kingston, Jamaica, on November 14, 1942, to Nora Sanchez and Eustace Charlton, Nora was one of nine sisters and one brother. She embarked on a life of service early on, traveling to England to pursue her nursing degree while staying with her sister Iris “Peggy” Robinson.
With her nursing credentials in hand, Nora journeyed to Montreal, Quebec, where she began her career with the support of her sister Cecile Coar. She later made her way to New York City, joining her sisters Doris Jackson, Barbara Charlton, Elaine Charlton, and Madge Charlton, and continuing her work as a Registered nurse.
It was in Manhattan that Nora met her future husband, Norman Boyd. The two married on October 7, 1972, pledging their love and commitment to one another through all of life’s seasons. Together they built a beautiful life in Queens, New York, raising two children, Rosemarie and Richard, and filling their home with love, laughter, and lasting memories.
Nora excelled in her career, rising to become head nurse of the telemetry department at Parkway Hospital in Queens, and later serving in various executive leadership roles within healthcare. After a distinguished career and raising two accomplished children who both went on to become lawyers, she retired to Coral Springs, Florida. There, she embraced an active lifestyle filled with fitness, Zumba, music, dancing, and volunteering at local hospitals.
Nora’s strength, vivacious spirit, and deep love for family and friends made her the life of any gathering. She fought a courageous battle against cancer, living with grace and dignity until her peaceful transition.
She is survived by her devoted husband Norman, her daughter Rosemarie and son-in-law Sandy, her son Richard, and her beloved grandchildren Samantha, Chelsea, and Sadé. She also leaves behind her sisters Elaine Charlton, Cecile (David) Coar, and Lavern (JM) Pinder, along with many cherished nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.
Nora was preceded in death by her only brother Harry, and her sisters Gean Lewis, Madge Charlton, Iris “Peggy” Robinson, Doris Jackson, Barbara Charlton, and Vivienne Charlton.
Nora’s vibrant spirit, unwavering love, and joyful presence will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her.
