Obituary for
Odila Gould
Odila (Poirier) Gould, born on November 22, 1920 in Buctouche, New Brunswick, Canada, returned home to the Lord on April 16, 2018 in Margate, Florida.
She was the Gould family matriarch, loyal friend and "Memere" to many. Odila was the beloved wife of the late Laurie Gould.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Armand (Jeannine) Gould; daughter, Shirley Gould; sister, Theresa Cassie; grandchildren, Glenn (Amy) Gould; Marsha (Michael Reda) Gould; and great-grandchildren, Christopher, Sophie, Michael, Lydia and Ellie.
Memere had a passion for visiting with her great-grand children and known to spoil them with all you can eat chocolate, surprise shopping excursions and passing them "Don't tell your parents" money. She delighted in each of their smiles and hated to see them go. She could always be found rocking in her favorite chair with a good cup of King Cole tea while sharing family stories with Amy and Marsha, taking care of the homeless cats in her neighborhood or cheating at solitaire. The tradition of "Pig" tournaments will be handed down for generations to come.
A life long devout Catholic, she was a member of Our Lady Queen of Heaven Roman Catholic Church. She was a supporter of the ASPCA and St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. The Gould family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Vitas at University Hospital for making Memere’s passing so peaceful.
A celebration of her life service will be held at Callahan’s Funeral Home in East Hartford, Connecticut. Date to be determined and will be posted.
