Renette René Roland

March 25, 1925 — June 22, 2024

Renette René Roland lovingly known as Tante Renette, peacefully entered into eternal rest on June 22, 2024. Born in Les Cayes, Haiti, she was the daughter of Siméon René and Laure Berrette. Throughout her formative years, she exhibited maturity, intelligence, competence, perseverance, and insight beyond her years. These traits would serve her well when she later immigrated to the United States.

Recognized as academically gifted, she was set to enter into medical school in Haiti but fell in love and married. While giving up the opportunity to attend medical school, she redirected her intellect and innovative energy into different areas and became both a self-taught seamstress and an appointed Directrice. It did not take long for her to earn the recognition of a master seamstress and the best in that region of the country. At the same time, she rose to become la Directrice de la Bibliothèque des Cayes. After immigrating to the U.S., Renette continued perfecting her clothing design skills in New York. When she later relocated to Rocky Hill, Connecticut, she became the featured designer at Three Times A Lady, a specialty ladies clothing boutique. Renette was especially known in the family as the one who made the wedding dresses; and she dressed many nieces in her lifetime. Skilled at both crochet and knitting, her delight was to create a one-of-a kind blanket for each baby born to family members and close friends. As an innovative designer, she was always stylish; she was a beautifully creative writer and an avid gardener. In Connecticut, Renette volunteered her services to the community and was a prominent member of the New Haven Chapter of The Girlfriends, Inc. and the Greater Hartford Chapter of the Links, Inc. Above all, Renette was strong in her faith in God and was a devoted mother who poured the essence of who she was into her four children. She was fiercely loyal to her friends and enjoyed every opportunity to entertain them.

Renette was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Menelick Roland and her daughter, Flora. She leaves to carry on her legacy, daughters, Kathleen, Michelle, and Renée; grandchildren, Karem, Yanick, Imani, Kyah, Julien, Emmanuelle and Emil; great-grandchildren; Arianna and Zara; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
