Richard E “Rick” Drake, 76, of Tamarac, FL passed away on November 22 2023. He was born in Covington, KY on May 16, 1947, the beloved son of Ralph and Jean Drake.
Rick's journey through life was marked by dedication and service. He proudly graduated from Northeast High School in Oakland Park, FL in 1967 before enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 1968. During his four years of service, Rick navigated the seas aboard the USS Willis A Lee and the USS Sarsfield, with deployments that took him to distant waters such as the Red Sea and the Indian Ocean. His commitment to duty and country was unwavering.
After his time in the Navy, Rick pursued a career as an Irrigation Service Technician until he retired. Those who knew him will remember his humor and one-liners like "you dropped your elbow," which never failed to bring smiles to those around him.
Rick experienced love and loss in his life. He was preceded in death by his third wife Rachel and his second wife Betty. Left behind to cherish his memory are his first wife Linda Hall, their children Ryan E. Drake of Eustis, FL and Cheri L. Stefanow of Collinsville, IL, along with their grandchildren Alexander Drake, Sierra Stefanow, and Drake Stefanow. He is also survived by his sister Barbara “Bonnie” Stephens, brothers William (Kay) Drake, Ronald (Gale) Drake, Terry Drake, and a host of nieces and nephews.
A kind soul with a gentle demeanor and a great sense of humor, Rick found joy in simple pleasures like bowling, golfing, football season, and playing video games.
As we bid farewell to Rick today, we carry with us memories of his laughter and kindness. Though he may no longer walk among us, his spirit lives on in our hearts. Rest in peace dear Rick; thank you for every smile shared, every laugh echoed, and every moment of warmth extended.
