Obituary for Rick Barnette

Ricky (Rick) Todd Barnette, 52, resident of Cincinnati, passed away peacefully and surrounded by family, on January 18, 2016 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida after a 9-month battle with colon cancer.

Rick was born on January 5, 1964 in South Charleston, WV to Robert and Maxine (Caldwell) Barnette and raised in St. Albans, WV. After attending college at WV State University, he began a long career in sales for several top consumer packaged goods companies, including Nestle Foods and ConAgra Foods. His last 10 years were spent training clients on the use of shopper loyalty data to better understand their consumer’s behavior in grocery stores.

Rick had an amazing capacity for joy and embraced life to the fullest. He delighted in exploring new places, spending time with his beloved daughter and grandchildren, making his famous (and secret) fudge recipe for friends and giving sage advice to anyone who would listen. But above all, he loved spending time with Barry in Ft. Lauderdale, or as he called it, his “happy place”.

He is survived by his loving partner and spouse of 30 years, Quinten Barry Jenkins, daughter, Tiffany Fisher, grandchildren, Molly and Owen of St. Albans, WV. He is also survived by a sister, Beverly Fitzgerald of Ozark, AL and brother, Robert Barnette II of Martinsburg, WV.

The family would like to express their gratitude to all the doctors and caregivers who cared for Rick during this past year at Anderson Mercy Hospital of Cincinnati, James Cancer Center of Columbus, and Holy Cross Hospital of Ft. Lauderdale, FL.

A special note of thanks to Catholic Hospice of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, who cared for Rick so compassionately during his final days.

At Rick’s request, his family is planning a celebration of his life to be held in Cincinnati, details of which will be forthcoming.
