It is with deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Verna James, 63, who passed away on Thursday, October 3, 2024, surrounded by her husband and children. Born on June 16, 1961, Verna was a caring mother, devoted wife, and treasured friend. Her warmth, generosity, and strength left an indelible mark on all who knew her.
Verna is survived by her husband, Jeffery James, her children Daimian Muir and wife Robyn Muir, Tricia Rodney and husband Andre Rodney, and Trudian Mills and husband Sheldon Mills, her grandchildren, Nicholas Muir, Caden Mills, Avery Mills, and Blake Muir and her siblings, Stanley ‘Paul’ Powell, Verona Young, Sonia Johnson, Junior Johnson, Clive Johnson and Linda Johnson. She was a known giver, caretaker and a true friend to all who knew her. She loved the Lord and to fellowship with friends and family in church. She was passionate about cooking and was known for the hospitality and community she provided to everyone who knew her. She was an amazing mother and an exceptional grandmother who loved her grandchildren through and through.
Her presence filled every room with light, and her compassionate heart made everyone feel welcome. Whether through her selfless acts or words of wisdom, Verna touched countless lives.
The viewing will be held at Serenity Funeral Home, 1450 S State Rd 7, North Lauderdale, FL 33068 on Thursday, October 17, 2024 from 3pm-7pm. Celebration of Life services will be held at Church of Jesus Christ Healing and Deliverance Ministries, 2185 NW 20th St Fort Lauderdale, FL 33311 on Friday, October 18, 2024 from 11am- 2pm to celebrate her extraordinary life. Burial services to follow at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Cemetery, 1500 S State Rd 7, North Lauderdale, FL 33068 on October 18, 2024 at 3pm. The Repass will be held at Church of Jesus Christ Healing and Deliverance Ministries, 2185 NW 20th St Fort Lauderdale, FL 33311 on Friday, October 18, 2024 at 4pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society or UM Sylvester Institute for Research and Advancement in her honor.

She will be deeply missed but forever remembered in the hearts of her family and friends.
