Walter Joseph Bohacek, Sr.
May 28, 1944 – January 28, 2017
On Saturday, January 28, 2017, the world became a little bit more somber and mournful. However, heaven became a whole lot more illuminated. Walter Joseph Bohacek, Sr. gained his Angel Wings as he entered into Heaven to be back with the Lord and his loved ones.
Mr. Walter Joseph “Bo” Bohacek, Sr., son of the late Walter Richard Bohacek and Agnes Louise Dori Bohacek was born May 28, 1944 in Highland Park, Michigan. He was the eldest of his two siblings, Dennie and Diane. When he was in his twenties, he worked as a construction laborer. Later on he began to work with his father and learned his trade as a machinist. Most of his adult life he was a quality control manager machinist working for a machine company that dealt with government contracts. He was very proud of his accomplishments as a machinist and was devastated when he needed to enter retirement early due to health problems.
Walter was married to Audrey Ellen Driscoll in a church wedding in early 1965. Later that same year they had their first daughter, Paula. Sadly, she only lived a day before she passed away due to delivery complications. Two years later, they welcomed their first son, Walter (Joe) Jr., and soon after their family grew even more with the birth f their son Mark, then daughters Denise and Lisa. They moved their family from the cold freezing weather in Michigan to the warm sun shine state of Florida in 1978.
Walter and Audrey divorced in 1982.
Walter married Bonnie Lynn Abbs in 1987 in a beautiful park setting surrounded by their family and friends. Bonnie had three children, Ronnie, Michael, and Debbie from a previous marriage. Walter never thought of them as his step-children, he thought of them as his own children. He even asked the two older boys for their permission to marry their mother, Debbie was still very young. He knew that by marrying Bonnie, he was also marrying her children. When he asked the boys if he could marry them, Ronnie was all for it, Michael laughed and said, “I’m not gay!” However, they were very delighted and excited. He treated her children as if they were his own blood and nothing less. Walter and Bonnie were very pleased about how well all their children got along.
Walter was a wonderful man that loved with all his heart. He was the type of man who would give you the shirt off his back or give you his last dollar if you needed it. He enjoyed bowling a lot. For many years, he was on a bowling league with his children Joe, Mark, and Denise; always known as the Killer B’s. He enjoyed spending time with his family, he loved BBQ’S, drinking beer, and playing with his grand-youngin’s. He also loved watching football (Detroit Lions, Miami Dolphins, and Carolina Panthers), baseball (Detroit Tigers), and hockey (Detroit Red Wings) with his sons. His favorite television shows included NCIS, sci-fi shows, and the local news (which could upset him a lot especially during the Presidential campaign). He liked to joke around a lot and had a spunky personality. He would joke around telling his children and grand-youngin’s that they have his blood running through their veins. He would hold out his hand and ask his daughters, “Got any money for your dear ole dad?” He liked to tease his daughters Denise and Lisa by calling them his little witchens. He enjoyed watching his grand-youngin’s play sports, gave them fist bumps, and lots of hugs. That was when the grand-youngin’s would allow him to hug them. Then he would jokingly state, “You’re going to miss me when I’m gone!” He was definitely correct about that.
Walters’s best features are shown through all seven of his children. He raised a crazy bunch of kids to become a crazy bunch of adults, of which he couldn’t have been more proud. He loved each and every one of his children with all his heart. There was nothing he wouldn’t do for them to try to make them happy. His children would say that it was because of him and his guidance that they turned out to be such wonderful adults, strong enough to choose the career paths they’ve taken, and wise enough to became such great parents themselves.
He will forever be cherished in the lives that were left behind. He was survived by his wife Bonnie Brown Bohacek; Audrey Bohacek Dowling (Mother of his biological children); son, Mark Bohacek; daughter, Denise (Robert) Bohacek Wittmann; daughter, Lisa (Norberto) Bohacek Villordo; son, Chief Warrant Officer 2 Ronald E. Our father is finally at rest, he is at peace and no longer in pain. He will forever be missed and loved. He will always walk beside us even when we’re not aware. He will look over us all as he always has.
This is not Good Bye Daddy, this is only Good Night.
Until we see each other again. We love you…
